viken - housing

Not far from Denmark lies the small fishinghamlet of Viken, which enjoys the view toward Gilbjerghoved and Kattegat.

The narrow streets, the low stone walls, the tarred footings and the narrow alleys running down to the drying grounds and the harbour represent a village architecture that is hard to be a match for.

The scheme's three narrow streets wind in between pale birch tree trunks on an old school property, where there are two housing types at play: A long house in two-stories and a 1½ story duplex.

The office has tried to squeeze the dimensions and slim the building masses in order to clarify the expression. The roofs and facades are of light, prefabricated wood elements with dark panel siding. The two-story spaces have high, slim window bays, which together with the facades and the clear-cut, pale zinc roofing give the scheme its special identity.
