city house in orestad

the city house is one of eight housing projects consisting of 8-12 floors surrounding the central park in orestad city, copenhagen.

the architect's intention is to break down this massive scale and introduce a number of spaces and qualities known from more traditional, small-scale housing. the access system is complex and varies from floor to floor, inspired by the low, dense city with narrow streets, squares and communal spaces. these include playgrounds and a garden that allow residents throughout the big house to meet.

the house combines the qualities of other high buildings in offering broad views of copenhagen's roof tops and the horizon. it provides an open, inviting access structure that contains intimate social spaces in close proximity to the individual flats.
